5oz’s of Fury: UFC 82 Fallout

Columns, News

Anderson Silva – One of the questions going into UFC 82 was whether or not Dan Henderson would be the guy to stop Anderson Silva. It was answered with an astounding “oh, hell no!” I’m not so sure anyone can stop him, at least not without fighters switching weight classes. Matt Hughes? Wanderlei Silva? I have a few ideas who Anderson might fight next, but in all honestly does it even matter? He’s getting to the point where the draw is to see how quickly he beats his opponent and how badly he does so.

Heath Herring – I was really surprised he won, because Herring hasn’t impressed me all that much. He blamed his loss against Jake O’Brien because O’Brien didn’t fight the way he wanted him to. Then he could have had Nogueira beat, but he decided to be a tough Texan and challenged him to get up. However he just gave Cheick Kongo a good thumpin’ and Kongo was supposedly inline for a title fight. What’s next for Herring? I was thinking a fight between him and Frank Mir…who I personally think is next inline for a title shot.

Yushin Okami/Chris Leben – Both fighters won their perspective fights, and did so with knock outs. There’s also potential for both fighters to be in line for a shot against Silva…

Okami was the last person to defeat Silva (albeit by disqualification) and Leben had a five fight win streak broken after being decimated by Silva in his first UFC fight. I say we have a fight between Okami and Leben; winner gets a chance to be Anderson Silva’s next victim.

Jon Fitch – His fight against Chris Wilson wasn’t his best performance, but at this point I think Fitch is the man to face the winner of Matt Serra vs. Georges St. Pierre. I know Karo Parisyan still feels he’s owed a title shot, but Fitch is current 8-0 in the UFC, Parisyan has that pesky little loss to Diego Sanchez…someone who Fitch beat. Karo can get next.

Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Coleman – Wow. Just after being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, they announced that former heavyweight champion Mark Coleman would be making a return to the Octagon to face Brock Lesnar. Coleman is a little before my time, but I checked his record and he hasn’t fought since 2006…and is 4-4 since 2001. Add to the fact that he’s in his forty’s and they current have the fight rumored for Lesnar’s hometown of Minneapolis…I think it’s clear that Coleman will be scoring the upset.

And because you were patient, here’s Rachelle Leah…
