Bears to Benson 'You're Fired'

2 DUI’s in a month will do that to ya.

The Chicago Bears placed Running Back Cedric Benson on waivers today, ending his tenure with the team. Benson was a first round draft pick, but has failed to live up to the hype. Many in the city were calling for him to lose his starting job before his recent off field problems.

Last month Benson was charged with boating while intoxicated, and this weekend he was cited for Driving Under the Influence and the Bears organization did not like the direction Benson was heading.

“Cedric displayed a pattern of behavior we will not tolerate,” Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said in a statement. “As I said this past weekend, you have to protect your job. Everyone in this organization is held accountable for their actions. When individual priorities overshadow team goals, we suffer the consequences as a team. Those who fail to understand the importance of ‘team’ will not play for the Chicago Bears.”

The Bears will turn to Matt Forte, a rookie from Tulane, and long time back-up Half-Day Adrian Peterson. (Bonus points for the people who picked up on what I did there)
