Comedy Central Salutes George W. Bush – DVD Review

DVD Reviews, Reviews

We all know by now that Comedy Central, like most of us, are not fans of the 43rd president, Mr. George W. Bush. And as his days in office finally come to a close, Comedy Central attempts one more time to cash in on this mutual dislike.

This DVD offers no new material. I will say that again. This DVD offers no new material. You get an episode of South Park, Lil’ Bush, That’s My Bush, Lewis Black’s The Root Of All Evil and a smattering of other things from an animated short to various stand up comics. All of which aired on Comedy Central at some point and has been distilled down to this DVD. It must all be noted that most of this material is also already available on another DVD somewhere.

Frankly, I think this DVD is completely worthless. The South Park episode, “Mystery Of The Urinal Deuce” from season 10 is one of the weaker episodes in recent years with the two most annoying characters of the show ever, The Hardly Boys. That’s My Bush wasn’t really that funny of a show. I mean it was funny cause it made fun of Bush, but it really wasn’t that funny. And Lil’ Bush is even less funny.

The one saving grace here is the episode of Root Of All Evil wherein Lewis Black pits comedians Greg Giraldo and Patton Oswalt against each other to determine who is the true root of all evil: Paris Hilton or Dick Cheney? There are some really good laughs here but not enough to make this DVD worthwhile.

After eight years, making fun of George W. Bush has just gotten tired. And if Comedy Central is going to try to sucker fifteen bucks out of their fan base in these struggling economic times the least they could do is include a little new material. Sadly, there is nothing of the sort to be found here.

This is all in full screen and the sound is in Dolby Digital Stereo. All this stuff looks and sounds fine, but that doesn’t make it any less recycled or any funnier.

Comedy Central Quickies: Like most Comedy Central releases you get a couple Quickies. The two included here are from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. The are probably the biggest laughs on the whole DVD.

I think my dislike for this DVD has already been made pretty apparent. At this point I really don’t know what else I can say. Whether you like George W. Bush or not, I think we can all agree on avoiding this DVD.
