Jonah Hex may never see the light of the big screen.
Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine, the writer/director team behind the action flick Crank and the upcoming Crank 2, have announced that they are leaving the film adaptation of comic book Jonah Hex because of “creative differences”. While no other information regarding the split has been given it may have something to do with what Josh Brolin, who is in talks to play the gunslinger, said during a press conference.
While answering various off the record questions about the creative team Brolin stated that he didn’t like the direction they were taking the project. It seems like the producers were the ones who chose Brolin.
While Taylor and Neveldine have completed a script they will not longer be directing the film and Warner Bros. is now actively looking for a new creative leader in hopes of keeping with a Spring production start date. They are also hoping to lock down Brolin who has not officially signed on yet. How much of Taylor and Nevelidine’s script remains after it arrives in new hands may never be known.
Jonah Hex is a DC Comics anti-hero in the Old West who is horribly distinctly scarred down one side of his face where he was burned by a red-hot tomahawk. He was an officer for the Confederacy during the American Civil War, fought at Gettysburg and has the sort of cynical, surly attitude not too different from Clint Eastwood’s The Man With No Name.
