He-Man, Master of the Big Screen

Disc Announcements, News

Warner Bros. and producer Joel Silver are working on bringing He-Man back to the big screen. John Stevenson (co-director of Kung Fu Panda) is in line to direct.

It started out as an 80’s toy line and a cheesy Saturday morning cartoon. In 1987 it was brought to the Big Screen for the first time with Dolph Lungdren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor and the super campy film bombed epically.

Warner Bros. acquired the rights in 2007. Justin Marks wrote the first draft of the script based on a story he developed with Neil Ellice.

This will mark the second time this year that an animation director has been signed on to direct a live action film as Horton Hears A Who director, Jimmy Hayward, is set to direct Jonah Hex.

Toy franchises seem to be giving comic books a run for their money in the film world. This year will see the release of Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen and G.I. Joe. Warner Bros. and Joel Silver are also working on developing a Hot Wheels film.

So when is Thundercats going to get it’s big screen debut?
