It seemed a bit convoluted at first, but I suppose I can give WWE a free pass on at least trying to explain the validity of Edge being World Heavyweight Champion. This also confirms once and for all ECW being a lower rung brand. Not that it didn’t seem clear enough before, mind you.

So far, I like the possibilities of what WrestleMania 25th Anniversary has in store. Edge Vs. John Cena for the former WCW belt. Randy Orton challenging Stephanie’s husband for the WWE title. Undertaker getting to extend his streak with a win over either Shawn Michaels, Bradshaw Layfield, or both. Money In The Bank…and whatever it is Chris Jericho’s gonna be doing.

Maybe it’s a party foul on my part, but I’m not really interested in seeing Mickey Rourke or Ric Flair wrestle. Lawrence Taylor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. were able to get by. Taylor, because the explanation was that he was personally trained by Diesel to face down Bam Bam Bigelow and Mayweather, because he had an entire entourage helping him out against Big Show. Rourke? Trained enough to star in a movie.

As for Flair though, once he does the comeback match, it makes it possible to cheapen his loss to Shawn Michaels, which was supposed to be his last match. It also means that even that moment, big as it was is reduced to being on the same level as Hulk Hogan, “retiring,” Kevin Nash at WCW Road Wild in 1999.

Not that anyone remembers. Heck, I’m kinda surprised I still do.

Other possible matchups for the big get-together in Houston are Jack Swagger defending the WWE ECW title against the returning Christian as well as CM Punk and William Regal doing battle over the Intercontinental title. As for the World Tag Team, WWE Tag Team and United States belts…I have no idea. Maybe those guys’ll be involved in either the pre-show battle royale or Money In The Bank or something.

The most intriguing storyline going into WrestleMania this year for me is Hunter Hearst Helmsley Vs. Randy Orton as WWE finally seems ready to acknowledge what many of us already knew. That being H3’s relationship with Stephanie. Either they’ll come out and say that he’s married to her and they’ve tried to keep hush about it or just say that he’s the father, which may lead to an Uncle Elmer moment later on this year. But either way, it’s good they’re finally about to acknowledge something after years of hints here and there. This should make for the most intense feud heading into April.

For now though, I’ll just sit back and enjoy the shows (except SmackDown, I don’t have it available where I live and probably wouldn’t care to watch it much anyway).
