Where the Wild Things Are trailer

Where are the really good live-action kid movies, huh? Pixar’s got the market cornered for animation, but good kids movies, in general, are spotty. Maybe I’m just reflecting on my days of being a kid in the ’80s – movies like The Goonies and The NeverEnding Story spoiled me.

For this first look of Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are, we get to an almost dialogue-free teaser, but the visuals are simply amazing. Wily Wonka would call it “pure imagination.” I see a movie that looks to appeal to kids and adults all the same.

Spike Jonze, famous for his imaginative music videos as well as his films Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. The screenplay was co-written by Spike Jonze and author Dave Eggers, who also wrote Sam Mendes’ upcoming Away We Go. This magical movie about big, furry monsters is based on Maurice Sendak’s beloved children’s book of the same name. Warner Brothers will unleash the fur on October 16, 2009.
