“Every town has an Elm Street.”
While this may be the case, the Nightmare on Elm Street horror franchise has only had one person play Freddy Krueger. He is Robert England. That will all change next April, as New Line Cinema (under Warner Bros.) reboots the franchise. A few months back Latino Review broke the news that Jackie Earle Haley, star of the recent Watchmen and Oscar-nominated for Little Children, was going to don the dank-smelling red and green sweater, and strap on the razor glove. Other actors rumored at the time included Ben Foster and Robert Knepper.
It wasn’t a done deal at the time it was reported, but now there is word that Haley is in final negotiations to tip his fedora hat as the new Freddy Krueger. The official announcement should come early next week.
Shooting begins under the watch of Samuel Bayer at the end of the month in Chicago. The reboot will be released theatrically on April 16, 2010.
