Paul Weitz to adopt Fockers

Disc Announcements, News

The third installment of the Fockers comedy series starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro is slowly getting underway and now Paul Weitz is in talks to direct the film which will be called Little Fockers.

Jane Rosenthal and Jay Roach are producing, and the studio will begin production in July. John Hamburg is rewriting a script originated by Larry Stuckey.

De Niro and Stiller as well as Owen Wilson, Teri Polo and Blythe Danner are all so far set to reprise their respective roles.

The studio has been looking hard for the right director to replace Roach, who directed the first two, Meet The Parents and Meet The Fockers, that turned in a combined worldwide gross just north of $820 million.

Dealmaking is about to begin with Weitz, whose plan is to move directly from Fockers into directing Another Bullshit Night In Suck City, an adaptation of the Nick Flynn book that Weitz wrote. Focus Features has picked up the project, which will star De Niro and Casey Affleck. The film has been a passion project for Weitz.

Weitz most recently directed an adaptation of the Darren Shan children’s novel Cirque du Freak. The film is slated for early 2010.
