MGM’s remake of Red Dawn is moving swiftly. A few weeks back, it was announced that Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) had been cast in role that Patrick Swayze played in the ’84 original. Newly added to the cast are Josh Peck (The Wackness) and Adrianne Palicki (TV’s Friday Night Lights).
Stunt coordinator and second-unit director of Quantum of Solace and The Bourne Ultimatum, Dan Bradley, will be making his feature-film debut as director with Dawn.
Peck will play Matt Eckert, the role originated by Charlie Sheen, the younger brother of Hemsworth’s Jed Eckert and star quarterback of their Spokane high school football team. Palicki will play Toni, described as a “tough fighter” the brothers encounter, who develops romantic feelings for Jed, a Marine home on leave and the group’s unofficial leader.
Whereas the original took place during the Cold War, the remake, penned by Jeremy Passmore and Carl Ellsworth, will bring it to a modern day setting.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters Sept. 24, 2010.
