The UFC 103 bout between Texas native Mike Swick and Martin Kampmann will determine the next challenger for the welterweight championship belt. Joe Rogan mentioned during the UFC 100 broadcast that the September 19th fight could determine who gets destroyed by faces St. Pierre next, and that little nugget of information has been confirmed by sources close to the fighters.
I don’t think either of these guys will have any appeal against Georges St. Pierre, especially after what we saw him do to Thiago Alves. I believe Alves represented the final real challenge to St. Pierre’s throne, and he literally dominated him from start to finish, including two rounds with a jacked up groin. St. Pierre needs to move to middleweight or risk becoming completely stale and an afterthought in the minds of UFC fans.
