Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) already has a number of projects on his slate, including a video game adaptation of Gears of War. But now he another: the graphic novel “Shrapnel” from Radical Publishing.
He discovered the novel the day of its release when he took his 10-year-old daughter to a comic book store.
The novel was teased at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, and it describes a sci-fi future where humans have colonized the solar system and formed a Solar Alliance to govern the planets. The story focuses on Venus, the last rebellious holdout, and a self-exiled former Marine who teaches the colonists how to fight back.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wiseman was drawn to the reluctant-hero story of “Shrapnel,” seeing the similarities of the John McClane hero of the Die Hard films.
The film will be developed as a live-action pic, and a 3D approach is considered possible. A video game is planned with Zombie Studios.
Still on Wiseman’s to-direct list is the Billy Ray-scripted Motorcade at DreamWorks, Atlantis Rising (slated for a Summer 2011 release), and the abovementioned Gears of War adaptation.
