WWE To Launch Cable Network? Plus Diva Cleavage Censorship

News

In a feature article on WWE’s move to TV PG written over Summerslam weekend, the L.A. Times’ Joe Flint found out what WWE’s next move in expanding their empire:

The WWE’s next move is to launch a cable network, which McMahon hopes to get off the ground within two years.

Flint sites both WWE’s massive tape library and their ventures in movies, video games, and music as forms of content, so it’s not necessarily a given that this theoretical channel would be 24/7 in network form.

Other items of interest from Flint’s piece:

Maria, on how the Divas have toned down the amount of skin they show- It’s not unusual, she said, for some of the girls to get reprimanded for “showing too much cleavage,” something that would’ve never happened a few years ago.

Ted Dibiase on the death of the wrestler as rock star lifestyle-
“We’d rather go back to our hotels and play Nintendo,” he said.

Big Show and Vince on the lack of agents- “Vince will take care of you,”said Paul Wight, a 14-year WWE veteran whose stage name is “Big Show.”

“I’m not a real fan of agents,” acknowledged McMahon. “As long as you are fair with everyone, why would you have an agent?” he wondered, adding that his top guys pull in “several million dollars a year.”

Flint draws an interesting parallel between WWE and old time Hollywood studios in setting up that quote.
