Pulse Wrestling’s RoH on HDNet, 8-31-09

Reviews, Shows, TV Shows

We come to another episode of RoH on HDNet. I was in attendance for this event too. The show is headlined by an 8 man tag featuring the Embassy against Colt Cabana and friends. This was a lot of fun live. Does this week’s main event live up to the live show? Read on to find out…

Delirious w/ Daizee Haze vs. Sonjay Dutt

Delirious runs through his usual shtick to start off and they go into some very slow mat wrestling to start. The pace picks up very quickly as Sonjay shows why he can be one of the better high flyers in the biz. Still, the competitors seem to be wrestling two different matches. There is not a whole lot of rhyme or reason to the goings on in the match. Sonjay has cool moves in his arsenal, though. After taking way to long, Delirious gets the better of a series of rollups for the win.

Winner: Delirious via pinfall

Backstage the Embassy talks about winning the main event tonight. Prince Nana is awesome.

RoH Tag Team Champions the American Wolves with Shane Hagadorn vs. Cheech and Cloudy

Cheech and Cloudy don’t even get a ring entrance which is an ill portent for them. Cheech and Cloudy actually do OK for themselves despite their lack of entrance. Still this is not surprisingly a squash and the Wolves make short work of their prey. Specifically, Eddie Edwards forces Cloudy to tap. It was fun squash, and more enjoyable in its brevity than the previous match. After the match the Dark City Fight Club make their entrance and destroy the fallen Cheech and Cloudy.

Winners: The American Wolves via submission.

Backstage Colt Cabana is with Grizzly Redwood, Necro Butcher and a clean shaven Brent Albright. He cuts an Apocalypse Now-esque promo hyping up his troops for later tonight. Albright says “Hoo-rah” a lot.

We get “highlights” of Jerry Lynn not retiring last week, and I couldn’t care less. We get those two head to head next week…It was boring live.

Silas Young vs. Erick Stevens

Silas Young is a half step above cannon fodder. Erick Stevens is a cannon. Surprisingly, Young does not get totally squashed. He puts in a surprising effort, but it proves to not be enough. Stevens wins with the Doctor Bomb. This was fun too.

Winner: Erick Stevens via pinfall

How Eddie Kingston doesn’t smack the hell out of Kyle Durden baffles me. He talks about how much he hates Chris Hero.

Main Event 8 Man Elimination Tag: Prince Nana, Ernie Osiris, Claudio Castagnoli, and Jimmy Rave vs. Colt Cabana, Brent Albright, Necro Butcher, and Grizzly Redwood

The Embassy gets the TP treatment, and as always, I love it. I enjoy elimination tags, and I enjoy almost everyone involved in this match. After a crazy start things settle down and Necro is in there with Ernie Osiris. Claudio uses the team assisted abdominal stretch on Necro, but he is outdone by Necro’s team who all get in on the act extending it out into the crowd. That is a hilarious comedy spot. It takes a while for anyone to get eliminated, but Grizzly Redwood is the first to go after a surprise rollup with a handful of tights by Ernie Osiris.

Things settle down again and the heels take control. Albright comes in to clean house and he and Claudio battle to the outside eliminating each other. That leaves Colt and Necro against Rave, Osiris, and Nana.

The Heels isolate Necro, destroy his bad ankle and Jimmy Rave forces him to tap to the Heel Hook. That leaves Colt in a 3 on 1 situation. Colt is able to get all three: Osiris with the Colt 45, Rave with a rolup, and Nana with the Billy Goat’s Curse. Colt looked like a bit of a Super Hero, but the match was still fun and a different way to main event RoH on HDNet.

Sole Survivor: Colt Cabana last eliminating Prince Nana

Big Andy Mac’s Big Andy Final Thoughts:This show was lacking in great wrestling, but it was a lot of fun. You can’t complain too much about that. I would not be shocked if Colt Cabana wins the RoH title from Aries after he is all done with the Embassy. He is already moving toward a feud with A Double. I would like to see that very much.

On a side note…a question for the readers. How many of you regularly watch RoH on HDNet in addition to reading my expert commentary? The reason I ask is because my impending move could leave me without HDNet and thus Pulse will need a new writer to recap the show. E-mail me if you show any interest.

I’ll see you next time…
