According to Variety, Paramount Pictures has begun negotiations with Chris “Captain Kirk” Pine to play CIA analyst Jack Ryan in its reboot of the franchise based on the Tom Clancy novels.

Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman said: “Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we’ve taken our first step in creating a reboot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise.”

Jack Ryan has previously been played by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt For Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger) and Ben Affleck (The Sum Of All Fears).

Despite there being several other Jack Ryan books written by Clancy, the project that Pine will be joining is an original concept by Hossain Amini which is currently being reworked by the studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld.

Since they are still in the development stage it is unclear whether Pine will make another Star Trek film before hanging up his tricorder to play Jack Ryan.
