Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen slated for UFC 110 in Australia

News

A middleweight bout between contender Nate Marquardt and former WEC top contender Chael Sonnen is set for the UFC 110 show in Sydney, Australia, according to Joe Ferraro at Sportsnet.ca.

Marquardt is coming off a devastating knockout victory over submission ace Demian Maia, giving him his third straight victory. He has worked his way back into contendership after his loss at UFC 85 to former top contender Thales Leites. “Nate the Great” followed up the loss with technical knockout victories over Martin Kampmann and Wilson Gouveia.

Sonnen walked away from UFC 104  with a unanimous decision victory over Yushin Okami, extending his winning streak to two straight victories with the other being a decision win over Dan Miller at UFC 98. His last loss was a submission defeat at the hands of Marquardt’s most recent victim, Demian Maia.

The original plan for Marquardt was a bout with Dan Henderson to determine the division’s top contender. However, with Henderson’s alledged departure from the promotion, Sonnen steps in to take on one of the division’s top contenders. Whether or not a title shot awaits the winner of this fight is yet unknown.

UFC 110 is set for Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia on Feb. 21 of next year. Stick with Inside Fights with breaking news regarding UFC 110.
