NBC's Trauma Cancelled After 13 Episode Airs Later This Year
by Josh Clinton on November 9, 2009

NBC is giving its freshman series Trauma a do-not-resuscitate order.

The network is planning to let the show’s 13-episode order play out for the rest of the fall, but that will be it for the medical drama about San Francisco paramedics. The network isn’t using the worded “canceled,” but a rep confirms that it’s also not ordering any more episodes.

Five episodes of the show have aired so far. The remaining eight episodes will likely hold down the 9 p.m. Monday timeslot through the fall.

The end of Trauma could possibly make way for the newly expanded season of Chuck to debut in January rather than March.

I can’t beleive that NBC is cancelling Trauma. Yes it is hard to believe, but isn’t that what TV and entertainment is all about. All shows do not have to be realistic. If I wanted realistic, TV would be the last thing I look for. NBC needs to get it together since this is the same network that cancelled Life so that Jay Leno could have the 10 o clock slot. LOSERS………….

  • JCW

    Irresponsible reporting.

NBC has yet to order the back 9 episodes of Trauma, but they have gone ahead with spending millions to finish the remainder of the 13 episodes.

This is because they are still hoping budget cuts and ratings hikes may justify a full season’s order.

Sure, it could end up officially cancelled, but it’s not the case as of this writing.

You’re a professional journalist? Perhaps I need to consider a change in career. If it pays to write what you want irregardless of the facts, it must be a pretty easy job.

I cannot believe that NBC is cancelling Trauma. I find the show so entertaining and love the characters. Do you ever give any show a chance? No wonder most people turn to the cable networks considering the local networks can’t be consistant with their programming. Not everybody wants to watch reality shows. If I want to see a bunch of people being mean and hateful to other people I will listen to the news or read the paper. Well, back to cable channels. I don’t want to get involved with a show that will be cancelled again.

Once again, NBC yanks a somewhat promising show that could have potential, if they put it in the right place–someplace other than right after “Heroes.”

Let’s hope someone else picks this up like TNT just did with “Southland.”

Thank you, NBC! As a paramedic I am happy to see this show go off the air. The show may have been mildly entertaining but it was so unrealistic and portrayed EMS in a very unprofessional light that many of us in the ‘biz’ cringed with each airing. Seriously, helicopter medivac in the middle of the city?

This isn’t to say that EMS wouldn’t be a great subject for a network medical drama, but next time maybe the producers can at least passively listen to their technical advisers.

I love Trauma. The story line, the action, the characters. NBC should move it to another night to see if the show can draw in more viewers.

  • MD

NBC was dumb putting Jay Leno at 10pm…however, NBC has some sense left…They cancelled the worst show on TV….TRAUMA!!!

  • john

This show is GREAT! WTF is NBC thinking… I watch it from the internet, so I can get it in HD! I’m sure a lot of people do it too… Whomever thinks that this show sucks, has no taste and is stupid… of course the realism behind this show isn’t real, it’s TV idiots! The fact is it is entertaining, and that’s what it is supposed to do… ENTERTAIN! Not be realistic!

  • LMB

This show was THE ONE SHOW that caught my attention with likeable characters that were interesting and all different! You keep Jay Leno on and discard this??? What are you guys thinking? We all loved Third Watch, NYPD Blue and years of ER and not because it was so brilliant, we fell in love with characters. With all the crap that’s currently on like 2 1/2 men (ugh!) and 94% of the rest of scheduled programming, you took your one show that was actually entertaining. Tell the idiot that pulled this to re-examine the rest of the shows before removing something that worked.

This was the best show that NBC has had in forever. The UNEXPECTED was phenominal! The entire family watched it. NBC MADE A BIG MISTAKE CANCELLING IT!!! Mercy doesn’t even come close! I will have to go back to the cable channels after this!

    STUPID MOVE NBC!!!!!!!!

  • http://tv.insidepulse.com Diana

This show was great! The best NBC has ever had. It is action-oriented with a great storyline and characters…I am sorry to learn that NBC has used such poor judgement. I know it would catch on with time, give it some moretime…Mercy is very boring in comparison..mistake to cancel “Trauma”.

  • Debra

Big, Big, mistake to cancel Trauma. Great actors and I loved how NBC mixed their work life with their personal life. Have a little patience and let it ride for a little longer.

  • Deedee

First Southland, now Trauma?!? NBC needs to get it’s act together! The first thing they can do is get rid of Jay Leno and get back to what they are known for: great programming! The majority of their program options suck and the few gems they have are being cancelled or moved around to accommodate a program that is supposed to be RETIRED!

I’m old to remember that Cheers was never supposed to make it past the first season. Hellooo, 11 years and syndication forever!!! Trauma has great potential and I for one DVR’d every single episode. Yes it needs some work, but that’s what your freshman year is all about, you’re not supposed to know anything. That’s why it’s important for the people around you to care enough to show you how it’s done, so your sophomore year and years thereafter mature into something great. I work in the medical field, and the characters– and make no mistake, Trauma is a character driven show–more than make up for the errors being made. But that is the fault of the producers! E.R. is off the air now, maybe someone should call them up and ask how it’s done!

And Southland??? What is wrong you people at NBC??? Southland is a stroke of genius with much more life in it that clearly NBC is unable to recognize. Thank God for TNT! Oh, but let’s not forget, NBC owns that too, so I’m still holding my breath on that one.

Move L&O back to Wednesday night 10pm and L&O SVU to back to Tuesday 10pm WHERE THEY BELONG! Jay Leno is not going to save an entire network. If NBC doesn’t care enough about their programming, why should the few viewers they have left care?!? GET IT TOGETHER AND STOP JERKING US AROUND!!!!

  • MLS

I cannot believe that NBC cancelled Trauma! This was the ONLY tv show that captured my attention in a LONG time. I don’t spend alot of time watching TV, and when I stumbled upon the first episode of Trauma purely by accident, I was hooked after 5 minutes and couldn’t wait until the next week’s episode. All that airs on tv anymore are fake, phony, BORING reality TV shows… one is more stupid than the other. It’s a total shame that a show that had such interesting characters and great action/effects was taken off of NBC so soon. It didn’t even have a chance. Talk about ridiculous. Well, at least now I have yet another reason not to watch more TV, let alone watch programs on NBC.

  • Linda

This sucks i really enjoyed this show and I loved all of the characters just when it started to get good they go and cancle the show…. Mabye it will come back on let’s hope right!!!!

  • Streetmedic

Thank God NBC canceled this dog. We put our hearts and souls into this career and to see us portrayed as immoral incompetents is disheartening. At last a big network did what’s right.

  • Tom Storey.

I liked the show, much better than Leno. I don’t see why all the good action shows get cancelled. The wave of reality shows is getting out of hand. Comments about the show not being realistic, no offense to EMS professionals, you guys do a great job, but this is a TV drauma. What shows are?

  • Kim

NBC is afraid to have a winning show. Trauma could have been great.. NBC is no different then CBS taking off Jericho. Now that was great TV. If NBC has any smart people at all they will be bring back Trauma and maybe start Jericho over again. I have no idea what is wrong with these people. Maybe some people need to be fired at NBC because I could run a better network then the people in charge now.

  • Kim

    BOYCOTT NBC, CBS, ABC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TK

I’m ticked right off NBC took Trauma off the air. It was a good show and kept you on the edge of your seat with a lot of their dramatic scenes. Why don’t you take Jay Leno off for good…he sucks!

  • http://yahoo Pricilla Beckley

Its a shame that once again NBC screws up and cancels
one of the best shows on tv. Who the hell is doing all these changes their deffinately out of touch with what people want to watch NBC has the same ol same every night we were really excited about having something new and different to watch I guess we’ll have to watch FOX.Wake up and get with the program.Put Trauma back on maybe you’ll get some of your viewers back.

  • http://insidepulse.com Michelle Bollie

I am done watching TV – Trauma was a good show and was the reason I watched Monday night TV – cause GOD knows nothing else good was on. This is why I don’t watch CBS – they don’t have quality TV – except of course, BIG BROTHER, which is getting old and tiring too.

  • Michelle Odle

I also really enjoyed Trauma and I wish they would bring it back!!!

  • Lawrie Raymer

Trauma was the most exciting series I have seen in years. The actors were excellent. It grabbed me from the first episode. I couldn’t wait for the next episode. Nothing has compared with it in years – not since NYPD Blues. Thank goodness NCIS is still on. Nice to be able to watch something with a little intelligence behind it. How many more stupid “reality” shows can the networks think up? They are not reality anyway. Please bring it back for people who enjoy a TV show with some guts to it.
