breakingpoint

When the ultimate moment is there and you can either continue on in severe pain and torture or relieve yourself of the agony, are you willing to do what it takes? Are you willing to give it all up? Are you going to just finally say the words “I quit” so that you can feel some sort of relief as the pressure is lifted? Or will you continue to fight through and persevere getting pushed as far as you possibly can. Will you move forward and then when you can’t be pushed anymore…realize you’re at your breaking point?

On September 13, 2009 from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the WWE arrived ready to show the fans just how far its wrestlers are willing to go before they hit their Breaking Point. Superstars from RAW, SmackDown!, and ECW converged in the same city that saw one of the biggest controversies in wrestling history take place in what has come to be known as “the Montreal Screwjob.” Bret “Hitman” Hart was a prominent figure in the entire wrestling world, but one particular night back in 1997 changed the face of wrestling and the fans of Montreal have never let anyone forget about it. It appears obvious that the WWE wants no-one to forget about it either since it was virtually recreated as CM Punk and Undertaker battled it out for the World Heavyweight Championship.

The night was full of other matches that could only be decided by submission or simply having the participant break down and say “I quit.” John Cena and Randy Orton unfortunately did not deliver in a match that was incredibly dull and boring almost forcing me to sleep at times. I’m sorry but submission matches need to grow on me because the whole “wearing down” tactic gets old quickly. Such is the case with this match. Kane and Khali battled it out with Singapore canes but even that stipulation couldn’t make those two giants very interesting. Seeing two lumbering giants beat each other with sticks is not my idea of entertainment.

Breaking Point was saved though by a handful of the undercard matches including the two tag matches – especially DX versus Legacy. These four guys are delivering every time they step into the ring together showing that old school (DX) and new school (Legacy) can mesh just fine in or out of the ring. Kofi Kingston and the overly impressive Miz put on a great with a lot of near falls and just great wrestling. They told a wonderful story and kept us guessing throughout the duration of the match. Christian against William Regal was decent, but it could have been better. I just truly wish that Regal could finally catch a break and take his mastery to the next level by winning a world title. Even if it is the ECW championship.

The event is shown in 1.33:1 Full Screen format and there is no reason to ever doubt the production values of the WWE because everything looks great here as usual.

The event is heard in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound making the same hold true for the audio quality as all is perfect coming through with clear and precise sound.

Ok, so the WWE breaks its two crappy/mediocre PPV streak here but not by a lot. Half of the matches were decent or good while the rest just really didn’t deliver. And it says a lot when the matches that don’t deliver the goods are the World Title bouts. It just really seems like each PPV is setting up the match for the next one and it is really getting quite annoying. I hate seeing stupid finishes and then getting the exact same match the next month but only with a different gimmick. Seriously, does ANYONE want to see Randy Orton and John Cena within 1,000 feet of each other again? I sure as hell don’t. Nothing much going on in the special features department, but you really shouldn’t be surprised by that one. My thoughts on all these submission matches on one event are still up in the air, but guess I’ll have to wait until next year for a second helping.
