Moviehole got a few images from Sony recently showing just what the new Karate Kid film will look like. It’s a not a remake so at least that is one thing the film has going for it, but for those of us who grew up on the first few…it’s not going to thrill us any.
The film stars Jaden Smith (Will Smith’s son) as Dre who lives with his mother and they’ve fallen on hard times. Desperate for work, she moves to China (really?) and gets a job. Not necessarily happy in his new surroundings, Dre embraces the art of karate which is now being taught to him by self-defense master, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan).
A release date is tentatively scheduled for June 11, 2010.
Even though it’s not a remake, I wonder what Ralph Macchio thinks about all this? Or better yet, is Mr. Myagi (Pat Morita) turning over in his grave? Kind of think it would have been cool to now have an older Daniel (Macchio) train a kid to fight in the same tournament he battled in some twenty-five years ago. Now THAT’S your movie.

Hey, but at least it’s not Rush Hour 4. Am I right?
Is it too much to hope for that Chan will put Jaden in a “body bag”?
