A few days ago we posted a trailer for The Bounty Hunter, a romantic comedy by way of Midnight Run starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler. That arrives in March. In April is the Steve Carell and Tina Fey comedy Date Night. This one involves a case of mistaken identity into a thrilling night in the Big Apple.
James Mangold, who has tackled a bit of everything with films like Cop Land, Girl, Interrupted, Identity, Walk the Line and 3:10 to Yuma, returns with the action-comedy Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis, Olivier Martinez, Paul Dano, Maggie Grace and Mark Blucas.
The trailer was attached to most of the prints of Avatar over the weekend, but if you didn’t want to deal with the crowds and see the trailer (and Avatar as well), 20th Century Fox has debuted the trailer online at E! Online.
Knight and Day is about a lonely woman (Diaz) whose seemingly harmless blind date suddenly turns her life upside-down when a super spy (Cruise) takes her on a violent worldwide journey to protect a powerful battery that holds the key to an infinite power source.
Okay, I may have to reevaluate the action-comedy label. Cameron Diaz playing a lonely woman sounds straight up science fiction. It’s as believable as Jessica Biel being unable to find a date in Valentine’s Day. Still, while the comedy isn’t all that great, the action scenes look good. The jury’s still out, but considering Mangold’s track record to this point, I’m willing to give it a shot.
Knight and Day arrives in theaters on July 2, 2010 and it’ll be competing against The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and The Last Airbender.
