Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced 2012 for Blu-ray release on March 2, 2009. Nobody does a disaster flick like Roland Emmerich (see also The Day After Tomorrow), and his latest was one of the huge moneymakers in fall 2009. Now it will be available on BD in two editions: a single-disc release and a two-disc special edition (exclusive to Blu-ray) with “over 90 minutes of thrilling special features”.

Bonus features for the special edition include:

* Seven featurettes
* Deleted scenes
* Interactive Mayan calendar
* Adam Lambert music video
* Digital copy

In an interview Emmerich did with Blu-ray.com, he mentioned he shot an alternate ending that was ultimately cut because it was deemed “too unrealistic.”

So what about John Woo’s The Killer? Is it any closer to being released on Blu-ray? The answer is yes. Now that Vivendi Home Entertainment is responsible for the home releases of The Weinstein Company, I think we can expect more Dragon Dynasty related titles in 2010. Walmart has two titles listed on its Web site for March 30, 2010:

The Killer (2-Disc Ultimate Edition) DVD

The Killer (Blu-ray)

Other titles rumored to come out by Vivendi in 2010 include:

03/02/2010 – The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (Blu-ray)
03/02/2010 – Return To The 36th Chamber (DVD)

04/05/2010 – Tony Jaa’s The Protector (Blu-ray)

He's told that the position is his until he's dead or if "The Boss" can find somebody better. I expect the best and I give the best. Here's the beer. Here's the entertainment. Now have fun.
