Orphanage Remake gets a Director

News

The Spanish horror film The Orphanage is getting the remake treatment. Before you get your knickers in a twist (like I did), just like he did with the original, Guillermo del Toro will be producing the remake. Mark Pellington (Arlington Road, Henry Poole is Here, U2 3D) will direct.

The story centers around a woman who grew up in an orphanage and as a child, was tormented by a spirit. Now that she is an adult, she purchases the abandoned orphanage with the hopes to re-open it, but her young son is soon tormented by the same spirit. This is an amazing and original, truly chilling story brought to life by master of horror Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, Hellboy) and directed by Juan Antonio Bayona (who at one time was chosen by Summit Entertainment to direct the latest Twilight installment, Eclipse). Luckily for fans of the original, del Toro is not only producing, but helping adapt the screenplay.

As with all American remakes of foreign films, I personally recommend that you see the original before the remake. The Orphanage is widely available.

Jenny is proud to be the First Lady of Inside Pulse Movies. She gives female and mommy perspective, and has two kids who help with rating family movies. (If they don't like 'em, what's the point?) She prefers horror movies to chick flicks, and she can easily hang with the guys as long as there are several frou-frou girlie drinks to be had.
