Trailer for Jay Baruchel's She's Out of My League

News, Trailers

I’ll be honest, Jay Baruchel’s a strange-looking fellow. Yet, he’s been all over the map with the projects he’s done. Appearing in films like Almost Famous and Million Dollar Baby, what many people most remember him from is the short-lived TV series Undeclared. That was a leading role for him, which are hard to come by. Many of his lead roles are in films that probably wouldn’t register a blip on your viewing radar: I’m Reed Fish, Just Buried and Fetching Cody are some of the others.

But come March 12th, he’ll be in the spotlight again in a comedy full of bad language and sexual content, two ingredients to help make any winning restricted sex comedy. The movie is She’s Out of My League, not be confused with She’s All That starring renowned thespians Freddie Prinze, Jr., Paul Walker and Matthew Lillard (whatever happened to that guy?).

The timing of this film couldn’t have come at a better time. Baruchel plays a TSA security guard (they’re the ones getting a thrashing in the media because of bombs and crotches) who meets the perfect woman (played by Alice Eve), but he lacks the skills to close the deal. Not helping matters is the influence powers of friends and family who are trying to understand why she would be interested in him in the first place.

Watching this green-band trailer below by Paramount doesn’t offer much in the way of good comedy, but with a little investigating I found that the comedy is from the same guys who wrote Sex Drive (Sean Anders and John Morris), which I found to be rather underrated when it came out in theaters a few years ago. That film had a sucky green-brand trailer as well.

It’ll be the second comedy coming out this year that was written by Anders and Morris – the other is Hot Tub Time Machine.

While it does look like a stupid comedy, it could be a fun stupid comedy. Alice Eve looks good and it’s got Krysten Ritter (27 Dresses) in the friend role that would usually go to Judy Greer. It’ll probably make for a good lazy afternoon matinee, but does anyone really want to see this?
