While nothing is confirmed, Thomas Lennon (The State, Reno 911), who co-wrote the first two films with friend Ben Garant, suggested to Access Hollywood that a third installment may already be in the writing stage.
On Wednesday night, Lennon was spotted on the red carpet at the “Pee-Wee Herman Show” and told AccessHollywood.com that the possibility, well, “how could you not? I think it’s a really outstanding idea to do Night at the Museum 3.”
A few seconds later he said with a raised eyebrow, “I wonder if someone’s not even already working on a script for that.”
And he suggested he is thinking about where the next film could be set.
“Here’s a little bit, [a] real quick spoiler alert – ‘Night at the Museum 3′ is set in the Liberace Museum,” he said with a smile.
Liberace Museum, huh? Why not just take Ben Stiller from the Smithsonian and put him in the Louvre? Guess we’ll find out in a year or so.
