Details On Next Muppet Movie Emerge

News, Projects

So a director was recently signed on to lead the band of miscreants, but now there are details emerging about the plot and script for the next Muppet movie and it looks like it will be a lot of fun.

We found out about a week ago that James Bobin would be directing the next Muppet film, but that was really all we knew. It appears now that we know a lot more including the title of the film. Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller have written the script which is being kept under wraps somewhat, but Playlist was able to get a few details from one of their sources.

It will be called The Greatest Muppet Movie of All Time and it seems like it will lead Muppet fans down the extremely odd and exciting routes we’ve all been down before.

“The film is about Gary, Mary, and Walter (a man, his girlfriend, and the man’s life-long nondescript, brown puppet best friend) getting the old Muppet gang – now retired entertainers known for the same Muppet show we know them from – together to save the TV studio that the original show was shot in. A villain, Tex Richman, bent on drilling for oil underneath the studio, is due to take over the studio in weeks and the only way to stop him? Putting on a show that draws ten million viewers.”

Sounds simple yet perfect for the Muppets. Still, it is being said by the source that the script truly isn’t all that great. They are currently putting it in the same category as The Great Muppet Caper. While good, that film is quite possibly one of the least loved films from the Muppets.

Hopefully a second draft or even just the execution of the film will be good enough to make it more fun then we even know how to handle. Maybe it won’t even matter though because the Muppets can always entertain with whatever they are given to work with.
