Tim Robbins Joins Green Lantern, will play Senator Hammond

Casting News, News

Tim Robbins, who most recently starred in City of Ember, has signed on to Warner Bros. Green Lantern, according to THR’s Heat Vision. This addition to Martin Campbell’s adaptation of the DC Comics’ character is a welcomed one. Robbins joins Ryan Reynolds, Peter Sarsgaard and Blake Lively. He’ll take on the role of Senator Hammond, the disapproving father of the villainous Dr. Hector Hammond (Sarsgaard). I must say this is good casting. Robbins hasn’t been in a high profile project since he had a small role in Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds.

Now the only bit of casting news we await is who is going to be cast as Sinestro. Jackie Earle Haley was rumored for the role, but it seems that negotiations are ongoing to get Mark Strong (RocknRolla, the upcoming Kick-Ass).

Production starts next month, so it shouldn’t be too long before we start to see photos taken from the set. Warner Bros. has Green Lantern scheduled to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.
