Earlier this month, we reported that Jason Momoa of Stargate Atlantis will play the anti-hero, Conan, in Marcus Nispel’s rebooting of the film franchise. It’ll be the third reboot of a franchise that Nispel has had a part in, after The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th.
A new addition to the cast is Mickey Rourke in the role of Conan’s father. Rourke had been rumored to play the father by Latino Review as early as January and was offered the role, but the deal fell apart.
The Pulse: Well good for Rourke for wanting to continue on the gravy train for as long as he possibly can after receiving critical acclaim for his performance in Darren Arronofsky’s The Wrestler. Though, if the story synopsis of this Conan reboot is true, then his appearance wouldn’t be more than a few scenes, since he dies at the hands of Vanir warlords.
As for the reboot itself, I’m guessing Nispel’s hiring is in relation to Pathfinder, which had good action but is by no means a good Viking movie. For that, we’ll most likely be waiting for Mel Gibson’s Viking epic starring Leonardo DiCaprio (I bet Martin Scorsese was heartbroken to find out the news).
