James Irvin Vs. Igor Pokrajac Set For UFC On Versus 2

News

After one unsuccessful trip to the middleweight division, James Irvin is moving back to the light-heavyweight division and will face Igor Pokrajac at UFC on Versus 2, August 1, in Salt Lake City.

Irvin (14-6) fought and lost to Alessio Sakara in March after having a difficult time cutting down to the 185-pound weight limit. He has fought in the middleweight, light-heavyweight, and heavyweight divisions, but his best success has come at 205.

Irvin is best known as the fighter who welcomed Anderson Silva to the light-heavyweight division in July 2008. Silva dispatched Irvin in just over a minute, and after he injured his knee twice, he finally returned this past March. Having lost three of his last five fights, Irvin may very well be fighting for his job in August.

Igor Pokrajac (21-7) is in a very similar position as Irvin. Pokrajac has lost his last two fights against Vladimir Matyushenko and James Te-Huna at UFC 103 and 110 respectively.

Having competed mostly in his home country of Croatia, Pokrajac is a training partner of for PRIDE Grand Prix Champion and current UFC fighter, Mirko Cro Cop.

Although nothing is confirmed at this point, the bout is expected to take place on the untelevised preliminary portion of the show.
