J.J. Abrams' Super 8 Teaser Now Online

News, Trailers

Courtesy of Apple, the teaser trailer for Paramount’s Super 8 is now online. Some theatergoers got to see it on the big screen when they saw Iron Man 2 this past weekend. (Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of them.) A pretty good tease, revealing just enough to pique our interest. And if what I’ve read is correct, the footage was shoot independently weeks ago, so it isn’t footage that will make it into the film per se. Revisit the original teaser to Back to the Future and notice how it contains all original footage.

Super 8 is written and directed by J.J. Abrams, who has risen from the world of TV with hit shows like Alias and Lost to direct the features Mission: Impossible III and Star Trek. Steven Spielberg serves as producer and the film has an estimated budget between $45-$50 million. Early reports have this film as being inspired by the Super 8 films that Spielberg and Abrams used to make. So the possibility of kids making their own movies only to capture something sinister in the background is there.

Paramount will be releasing Super 8 in summer 2011. An official date has not been set.
