Men in Black III Gets its Villain

Casting News, News

Dinner For Schmucks producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald were so impressed by Jemaine Clement’s turn in Schmucks that they lobbied for him to join another production of theirs. It just so happens that production is Men in Black III.

Clement will play the villain Yaz, the thorn in the side of Agents Jay (Tommy Lee Jones) and Kay (Will Smith). Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen was rumored for the role of Yaz, but apparently Parkes and MacDonald decided to go in a different direction.

The third Men in Black installment is being fast-tracked for a summer 2012 release, a summer that will see The Avengers, Nolan’s third Batman film, J.J. Abrams’ sequel to Star Trek, more Madagascar and Ice Age movies, and Spider-Man in 3-D! Whew.

Barry Sonnenfeld, who hasn’t made a feature film since 2006’s RV, returns to the franchise. New to the cast will be Josh Brolin. It is still unknown if Rip Torn will reprise his role as Zed.

Sound Off: Considering I missed Gentleman Broncos and I’ve only seen an episode or two of Flight of the Conchords so I don’t know how well Clement will be in the villainous role. Somebody, clue me in on if this guy is the right fit to play the bad guy in Men in Black III.
