NFL News: League Urges State Governors To Pass Concussion Laws

News

Washington, Oklahoma, Connecticut, New Mexico, Virginia, and Oregon already have laws on the books.

The laws are meant to protect children from being put back into games after they have had a concussion.

Roger Goodell sent a letter to 44 state governors asking them to pass the law protecting children.

Dr. Richard Ellenbogen, part of the NFL’s new Head, Neck, and Spine Committee, is holding a forum on the issue in New York Monday and will use Goodell’s letter as part of his speech.

The law has three essential elements:
-Children/Parents/Coaches must be educated about concussions every years.
-If a player suffers a concussion they must be removed from the game or practice and not allowed to return.
-A medical professional must clear the player before then can return.
