Stanley Tucci joins cast of Captain America

Casting News, News

Marvel Studios has announced that Stanley Tucci, who wowed audiences last year with Julie and Julia and The Lovely Bones, has joined the cast of The First Avenger: Captain America.

Tucci will play Dr. Abraham Erskine, the German scientist responsible for Captain America’s super steroids — the drugs that transformed milksop Steve Rogers into a super soldier.

See kids, you too can fight crime! All you need to do is inject an experimental growth hormone into your body. It’s what Captain America did, after all!

Tucci joins an already impressive cast that includes Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Neal McDonough, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Toby Jones. The film will be directed by Joe Johnston.

The Pulse: Regardless of what movie he is in, Tucci is almost always impressive in whatever role he decides to take on. I don’t have enough fingers and toes to count the films Tucci has been the sole redeeming factor of. Captain America, hopefully, will be more of a case of Tucci complimenting, rather than saving, the film.

Captain America, like every movie Marvel Studios has made since it gained autonomy, has an impressive cast to say the least. With the amount of talent in front of the camera, the ball is really in director Johnston’s court. Johnston has a career full of hits and misses but I’ve enjoyed enough of his work such as The Rocketeer and October Sky to believe that he has what it takes to bring his A-game.

Look for more casting announcements to surface for Captain America in the next few weeks as the film gears up for production.
