Hixon injured his knee in the Giants first ever practice on their new field.
Hixon caught his foot awkwardly on the new field turf in the Giants new stadium. Team officials originally diagnosed the injury as a hyperextension, but after more tests it was discovered that Hixon had torn his ACL and would be out for the year.
The Giants said the turf was soft and they had some concerns about the playing surface before they knew the severity of Hixon’s injury. The team is talking with the turf makers to have them take another look at the field to make sure it is installed correctly.
The players aren’t very concerned, they know the turf is new and it will take awhile to settle and become as firm as they are used to.
