Remember when we told you that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was looking at two thrillers for his next project? It looks like he’s settled on the bike messenger thriller titled Premium Rush. The film centers on a New York bike messenger (Gordon-Levitt) who picks up an envelope at Columbia University, only to be chased through the city by a dirty cop desperate to get his hands on it.
They could have just called it Quicksilver and built it up as a remake to the Kevin Bacon film. It is, after all, produced by the same company: Columbia Pictures.
As the dirty cop, THR says Michael Shannon, who rocked it in The Runaways – not so much in Jonah Hex – will play the cop. Also in negotiations is Jamie Chung, who will play Gordon-Levitt’s ex, a fellow daredevil bike messenger who helps him outwit the cop.
David Koepp is directing from a script co-written by him and John Kamps. Premium Rush is Koepp’s latest directorial effort after 2008’s Ghost Town. and is directing. Gavin Polone is producing.
