Shane Mosley has agreed to fight former light middleweight champion and winner of the first season of The Contender, Sergio Mora. The two will meet, according to Dan Rafael at ESPN, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA on September 18. The event will most likely end up on HBO Pay-Per-View, with light middleweight prospect Saul Alvarez already rumored to be part of the undercard.
September 18 will be a busy day in boxing. It is usually big given the link to Mexican Independence Day (Sept 16), but this is getting ridiculous. Wladimir Klitschko will defend his title on that day against Alexander Povetkin in a fight that now no one is sure to watch. Rafael Marquez will be fighting on Showtime, likely against Juan Manuel Lopez should Juanma have a clean win over Bernabe Concepcion on July 10. Now Mosley and Mora are set for a HBO PPV clash on the same day.
