Awesome French Poster for Piranha 3D Surfaces

News

In the 35th anniversary of Jaws, it’s only fitting that a poster for Piranha 3D would play homage to Steven Spielberg’s classic shark tale — a movie that clearly inspired Joe Dante’s original 1978 Piranha. What isn’t so fitting, though, is that France should be the country that has such an awesome poster.

The marketing campaign for Piranha 3D, which will see release on August 20, has been pretty low-key. America’s theatrical poster seems to highlight the 3D aspect of the movie more than the playful creature feature fun that director Alexandre Aja has hopefully prepared.

Piranha 3D features an ensemble cast that includes Elisabeth Shue, Kelly Brook, Jerry O’Connell, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer and Eli Roth. Richard Dreyfuss even makes an appearance as a scientist character that is, for all intents and purposes, Matt Hooper from Jaws.

Here’s the trailer for the film:

And, as an added bonus, here’s the poster for the original 1978 film:

The Buzz: I personally can’t wait for Piranha 3D. This is exactly the type of movie 3D was made for! Forget seeing cartoon super villains or element-controlling child prodigies, I want to see some blood, guts and boobs flying at my face in all manners of dimensions. Throw in a cast of likable actors and plenty of hot young co-eds and Piranha 3D should be the perfect throw-back to cheesy ’80s 3D goodness.

What do you think about Piranha 3D? Is the world ready to have some man-eating fish-related fun or have audiences become burned out with the ongoing presence of sub-par 3D effects on movies such as The Last Airbender and Clash of the Titans?
