American Splendor Writer Harvey Pekar Dies

Comic book writer Harvey Pekar was found dead on Monday by his wife, at the age of 70. While the cause of death is unknown Cleveland Heights Police Capt. Michael Cannon says Pekar had been suffering from prostate cancer, asthma, high blood pressure and depression.

Pekar is best known for his autobiographical comic book series, American Splendor, which he began publishing in 1976, and in 2003 was given the film treatment in a critically acclaimed movie of the same name starring Paul Giamatti.
