Rumor: Avengers to Assemble in Manhattan in 2011

News, Rumors

Another day, another bit of news regarding 2012’s The Avengers film.

While Ed Norton won’t be invited to the Avengers mansion when Joss Whedon directs Marvel Studio’s upcoming superhero team-up movie, Bleeding Cool is reporting that the masked heroes might be assembling in the Big Apple.

According to sources for the site, The Avengers will be shooting in Manhattan next year. The comic book version of The Avengers have long had their headquarters based out of New York City. While Iron Man saw the Marvel hero situated in sunny California, one could say Marvel Studios have been building towards a New York set film for some time. Both the climaxes for The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 take place in New York.

With Law and Order cancelled, New York-based film extras may not have their main source of work anymore but if the rumors prove true and The Avengers ends up filming in Manhattan, there is sure to be a need for civilians to run and scream from whatever terror the team will be facing.

In other news, Bleeding Cool reports that plans are currently in place to utilize the SHIELD Helicarrier in the upcoming film. Designing the Helicarrier, a mainstay of both comic book, video game and animated versions of the Marvel Universe, has apparently been a priority for Marvel Studio’s team of artist for some time now — even before director Joss Whedon came on board.

Bleeding Cool even reports that producers of the Marvel 4D exhibit in London’s Madame Tussauds were given preliminary designs of the Helicarrier so that there could be some consistency among Marvel’s media fronts.
