Watch This: Trailer for Ben Affleck's The Town

News, Trailers

Even before I knew the ins and outs of The Town it was high on my radar. When I saw Ben Affleck attached to direct I was sold. His directorial debut, Gone Baby Gone, was one of my favorite crime films in recent years. The trailer, which is attached to prints of Inception, looks like a worthy follow-up with Affleck being the ultimate multitasker. Besides directing, he also co-wrote and stars in the crime drama. The Town also stars recent Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker), Mad Men‘s Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall, Blake Lively and Chris Cooper. When you watch the trailer I’m sure you’ll be blown away, though I do think they reveal too much.

Four masked men — thieves, rivals, and friends from the tough streets of Charlestown — take on a Boston bank at gunpoint. Holding bank manager Claire Keesey (Hall) hostage and cleaning out the vault were simple. But career criminal Doug MacRay (Affleck) didn’t plan on one thing: falling hard for Claire. When he tracks her down without his mask and gun, their mutual attraction is undeniable. With a tenacious FBI agent (Hamm) following his every move, he imagines a life away from his gritty, dangerous work — a life centered around Claire.

Based on the novel Prince of Thieves by crime writer Chuck Hogan, The Town is both written and directed by native Bostonian Ben Affleck. Affleck hammered out the screenplay with help from Peter Craig (Waterbug) and Sheldon Turner (Up in the Air). Warner Bros. will roll out The Town in theaters on September 17th.
