The Padres have been the surprise of the league, and it earned Black stability.

The extension was first reported on MLB.com, financial terms were not disclosed. Black has been managing the Padres since 2007 and was in the last year of his deal.

Black has a 287-291 record with the Padres and has yet to lead them into the post-season, getting closest in his first year when they lost game 163 to the Rockies.

The Padres currently have a 4 game lead in the NL West with a record of 54-37.
