First Photos of Nicolas Cage and Amber Heard in Drive Angry 3D

News, Projects

One of the anticipated Comic-Con panels that Rob Sutton listed in this week’s Bad Ass Cinema column included Drive Angry 3D from Patrick Lussier. The film stars Nicolas Cage as a father brought back from Hell (what is it with Cage and the short stay retreats in the nether world?) to avenge crimes against his family, specifically his daughter and granddaughter.

Some concept art has surfaced online but it is these photos below that give us the Bat-shit crazy Nicolas Cage that we all know and love and Amber Heard showing that’s better looking behind the wheel than Megan Fox. The images come from HitFix and Drew McWeeney, who will be moderating the Drive Angry panel in Hall H on Friday, July 23.

Lussier’s remake of My Bloody Valentine was a cheesy good time because of how it incorporated 3-D technology. Forget the total immersive experience, this was straight-up deaths aimed squarely at the audience. When it comes to the horror genre, that is the best approach.

Looking at the image of Cage, you can’t help but laugh. Nicolas Cage has had quite the career both before and after he won an Oscar for his performance in Leaving Las Vegas. Films like Raising Arizona, Zandalee (where Judge Reinhold is rockin’ the pornstache), Scorsese’s Bringing Out the Dead and the unrelated “Man” trilogy (The Family Man, The Weather Man and The Wicker Man). And then there is of course the greatest movie ever made, or at least Simon Pegg’s Hot Fuzz character thinks so, Con Air.

Good movies or bad movies, the man is entertaining to say the least. Next to Rod Blagojevich’s hair, I don’t know of another public figure where people blog incessantly about his hairstyle. With each new project Cage does, the $60,000 question usually revolves around on what type of wig or extensions he will use.

In addition to these photos below, HitFix and Arrow in the Head will have you looking at Billy Burke, who Twi-hards know plays Bella’s father in the Twilight films, in a totally new light.

DRIVE ANGRY stars Nicolas Cage as Milton, a hardened felon who has broken out of hell for one last chance at redemption. Intent on stopping a vicious cult who murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon.

He’s joined by Piper (Amber Heard) – a young, sexy waitress who liberates her ex-boyfriend’s cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton. Now, the two of them are hot on the trail of the deadly leader of the cult, Jonah King (Billy Burke), who believes it is his destiny to use the baby to unleash hell on earth.

Besides the cult, Milton is being chased by the police and an enigmatic killer known only as “The Accountant” – who has been sent by the Devil to retrieve Milton and deliver him back to hell.

Brimming with rage, Milton must travel like a bat out of hell redeem himself once and for all.

Drive Angry will open in theaters on February 11, 2011.
