NBA News: New Orleans Hornets Hire Dell Demps As New GM
by Chad Jorgenson on July 22, 2010

You probably just asked the same question as I did.

Demps spent the last five years working with the San Antonio Spurs under GM R.C. Buford and learned how ro keep a small market franchise viable, something the Hornets liked. Demps and new head coach Monty Williams both played for San Antonio in 95-96 as well.

“From the moment I spoke to Hugh and Monty about this opportunity, I could tell something special was building within the organization,” Demps said. “The Hornets are a great organization with a lot of positive pieces.”

One of those positive pieces is Demps’ first challenge, All-Star Guard Chris Paul has reportedly said he would be open to a trade if the Hornets weren’t going to be competitive for a few years, something that could be difficult for a rebuilding franchise in the midst of an ownership change.
