Artist Norm Breyfogle Blacklisted By DC And Marvel?

News, Top Story

Bleeding Cool reports that 1990s Batman artist Norm Breyfogle believes he’s been blackballed at Marvel and DC. The site quotes Breyfogle as saying the following:

DC knows I’m available to them, but after they turned down 10 or so proposals from me after 2001, I gave up. It was quite apparent then that they’d put me on some sort of blacklist (I don’t know why they’ve done so). I’ve also heard some things from an editor at Marvel to indicate that I’m persona non grata at Marvel, too.

Ageism? Politics? Personal grudges? I’ll probably never know.

In response Marvel’s Senior Vice President in charge of Talent, CB Cebulski was quoted as indicating the following:

I have no idea who Norm was talking to at Marvel, but I can assure you that he is not persona non grata here. Norm is free reach out to us to let us know he is available and to submit work to Marvel just as any other working professional is. And if he’s reading this, Norm can contact me directly to talk about getting his work in front of the Marvel editors.

No DC representative as responded to Breyfogle’s claim yet.

For those that have been reading comics for a while, you probably remember Breyfogle’s art from 1990s. You can check out and revisit that stuff and his new works on his website: http://www.normbreyfogle.com.

He worked on Detective Comics and later Batman proper from 1987 to 1992 and also worked on Anarky for DC from 1996 to 1998. Some may also remember him from his Prime run at Malibu Comics from 1993 to 1994.

I’ve loved his work and thought his stylized artwork was first rate.

DC, Marvel: GET THIS MAN ON A BOOK OR TWO ALREADY!

One of my favourite runs on Detective Comics was his work on the Mud Pack!
