Texas Rangers acquire Cristian Guzman

The Texas Rangers acquired Cristian Guzman, sending two prospects to the Washington Nationals to complete the trade.

Guzman had been hitting .282 with 11 doubles, four triples and two home runs for the Nationals prior to the transaction. He has struggled throughout July however, batting only .231 in 65 at-bats.

This trade could be excellent for the Rangers. They are receiving a solid, dependable shortstop with two All-Star Games to his credit. He may be able to provide immediate help to the Texas-based team, filling in for the recently-injured Ian Kinsler.

The Nationals acquired minor league pitchers Ryan Tatusko and Tanner Roark in the deal. Tatusko is 9-2 with a 2.97 ERA in 24 games this season, while Roark is 10-5 with a 4.20 ERA in 22 games.

The prospects the Nationals gained might be usable parts of the team later on, or could serve as trade bait in another transaction down the road.
