NFL News: Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing Says Overtraining Lead To Positive Test

News

Texans owner Bob McNair was in New York to talk to Commissioner Goodell about the suspension.

Brian Cushing was suspended four games for testing positive for HCG, a women’s fertility drug, that is on the league’s banned substance list. Cushing contends that the positive test was a result of “Overtrained Athlete Syndrome”, a unique condition that he claims can cause hormonal spikes.

Cushing said he has had months of medical evaluations that back up his story.

“Every individual is genetically different,” he said. “I had a unique situation where something like this occurred and we have the science to back it up. It’s taken months. It’s really beyond what we ever thought and it’s beyond the regular medical doctor.”
