When last Gail wrote Bird of Prey, there was a group of martial artists known as the Twelve Brothers in Silk, and they had never known defeat before they knew Dinah. In fact, the fight against them involved Dinah with serious back up that included Huntress, Connor Hawke, Richard Dragon, Wildcat, Savant, and Creote; and it was still a very close battle.
The White Canary is their sister, born in shame as her mother died giving birth, her father ordered the baby drowned but the midwife was cut down by lightening. Seeing this as a sign, he had the oldest of his sons raise her to be like them.
Fast forward to after the Brothers tasted defeat. Unable to bear their shame, she has killed all of her brothers, and now she seeks to kill all of those close to Dinah before finally killing her.
