Wednesday Comments – Counting the Hours…

Columns, Top Story

So the 11th Annual Baltimore Comic Con is hours away. Ok, so by the time you read this it’ll be about 72 hours away, but I’m still measuring it in hours and that’s all that counts.

Last year’s con was all about deals. Over here I posted what I picked up last year. I really did make off rather well. But I didn’t really have a complete game plan last year.

This year it’s very different. I’ve got a pretty clear picture of what I’m looking for and I think that I’ll be able to get everything on my list.

I’ve actually gotten it narrowed down to nine things that I’m looking to snag.

R.E.B.E.L.S. #11 – it’s the only issue of the original R.E.B.E.L.S. title that I don’t have. Once I get that I plan on blowing though the original run in a weekend. I should be able to find this for at the most $1.

Criminal – Thanks for FCBD sales I managed to fall completely in love with Sleeper. I even picked up Point Blank. Basically I’ve fallen for Brubaker/Philips collaborations. I loved Incognito. But I’ve only gotten a handful of issues and the second trade for Criminal. I really only need to track down six issues; the first two of the original series and the last four of the sequel. Shouldn’t be that hard, right?

The Invisibles – Again, this is another one of those books that I’ve been collecting, yet not reading. I really want to wait until I get a complete run to get thought this series. Ok, so I tired out the first arc just for a sampling. I only need three issues of this series of limited runs to complete my run.

DMZ – This is one of those rare books that I dropped. But I’ve since picked it up again. What sucks about this title is that I’ve got enough issues or parts of a storyline to make trades redundant, which means I’m going to be digging for issues in musty long boxes.

Tangled Web – Vertigo creators working on Spider-Man? Um, I’m down. I’ve got the Azzarello issue, the Paul Pope issue and the Risso issue. I seem to recall seeing issues of this title floating around the last couple of years, this year I’ll quickly snatch them up.

Marvel Noir – Again, as with last year, I’m looking for Marvel Noir books. I enjoyed Wolverine and X-Men Noir and I’m currently working though Luke Cage Noir. The Noir line is one of those comic book experiments that you really want to succeed and take part in.

Another Nail #2 – I think that this’ll probably be the hardest thing to find this year. It’s a single issue of a pretty obscure title. I doubt that many vendors will be using space bringing Elseworlds with them.

The Walking Dead – As I mentioned last week, I’ve become a fan of the title. As I also mentioned last week I only have the first trade. This is probably the title that I’m going to be spending most of my energy tracking down. Being caught up on The Walking Dead might as well be my mission statement for this year’s con.

Enginehead – This aborted DC mini is just one of those odd quirky books that I really want to experience.

That’s pretty much my Baltimore Comic Con wish list.
