Spider-Man Films Get Separate Blu-ray Releases

Disc Announcements, News

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 will get separate Blu-ray releases on November 16. The two films had previously only been available as part of the Spider-Man: The High Definition Trilogy box-set released in 2007. Unfortunately, the discs for Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 included in the box-set did not contain any of the extensive special features that had previously been available on DVD. While special features have not yet been announced for Spider-Man 2, it seems pretty safe to assume the new edition will contain the special features previously missing in the box set.

Special features for Spider-Man include:

  • Filmmakers and cast commentary
  • Visual effects designer and crew commentary
  • Tobey Maguire and J.K. Simmons commentary
  • Spider Sense Trivia Challenge: Test your Spider-Man movie knowledge in this over feature trivia game (BD-exclusive)
  • Historical Documentary – Spider-Man: The Mythology of the 21st Century
  • HBO Making of Spider-Man
  • “Spider-Mania,” an E! Entertainment Special
  • Director Profile: Sam Raimi
  • Composer Profile: Danny Elfman
  • Behind the Scenes of Spider-Man: documentaries, featurettes, filmmaker profiles and more
  • Screen rests
  • Gag/outtake reel
  • Webisodes
  • Hero music video from Chad Kroeger featuring Josey Scott
  • What We’re All About music video from Sum 41
  • The Spider-man Cutting Room: Create your own video using clips and music from the movie and share it via BD-Live
  • movieIQ: connects you to access real-time information on the cast, music, trivia and more while watching the movie

I’ve been looking forward to revisiting the Spider-Man trilogy and it looks like November will be a perfect time to do so. Plus, I’ll once again get to see the music video for Hero, the Chad Kroeger theme song to Spider-Man that played ad nauseum in the summer of 2001. Aww, memories.
