Spoiler Warnings: Why Does Kilowog Join Guy Gardner’s Quest In Green Lantern: Emerald Warriors #2 By Peter Tomasi?

News, Spoilers

Now, the ‘Wog stepped down from his duties as drill instructor and took back the mantle of your basic Lantern in the epilogue of Blackest Night, but this is really the first we’ve seen of him since. A rookie Lantern approaches him, excited about his future in the Corps, but lamenting that he doesn’t have the honor of training under Kilowog. Still though, there is a brightness in his eyes as he exclaims how he can’t wait to fight along side this legendary trainer of Lanterns….and that’s when ‘Wog snaps at him.

Kilowog tells him that he’s going to die, or his friends are going to die in front of him, that he better listen to every word he’s told and learn every lesson he’s taught or else he’s going to be taking up residency in Lantern Morro’s crypt. Kilowog dresses down this White Circle until the point when he stutters in full military mode, stating his name and everything, and requests permission to leave, but ‘Wog just cuts him off and tells him he doesn’t want to know his name and to get out of there.

And as the Lantern leaves, hunched over and depressed, disenfranchised over the chastising he received, ‘Wog quietly says to be safe, though the rookie will never hear it.

Kilowog came out of Blackest Night bitter and with a realization as to just how much death really occurs to those tied to the Corps, and just how many Lantern’s he’s personally trained that are memories in the Crypt now. This trip with Guy might be just what he needs to rediscover his passion, and to not dwell on all the lives lost.
