Live-Action Pinocchio Coming Soon

News, Press Releases, Projects

According to MovieWeb.com, Warner Bros. is working on a live-action retelling of Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio. Bryan Fuller is set to write the script and the movie will be produced by Dan Jinks.

Jinks states that he was inspired to do this live-action version by Tim Burton’s recent reimagining of Alice in Wonderland. The original story was first told in 1883 by Collodi, but most know the story best through the 1940 animated movie created by Disney.

The Pulse: A live-action Pinocchio could be very interesting, but Jinks and Fuller need to take measures to make sure that the on-screen Pinocchio isn’t too creepy. This movie has definite potential to be unintentionally disturbing.

What will be interesting, though, is how much they stick to the original story. Disney made quite a few changes to make it more kid friendly, and depending on the audience Warner Bros. is shooting for, we may see a darker tale this time.

So what do you think? Is this a good idea? Is it time for a different look at the Pinocchio story?
